Studio Teaching Artist

IMG_6412.jpeg

Originally from Corner Brook, Whitney discovered her love of music in her elementary school music class. By the age of 10, she had picked up the guitar and drum set, and it wasn’t long before she knew she wanted to become a music teacher—a dream she proudly achieved. She graduated from Memorial University in 2010 with degrees in Music and Music Education (B. Mus./B. Mus. Ed.).

A versatile performer, Whitney was the Assistant Principal Percussionist with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra for nearly a decade. She has also performed with a wide range of groups, including the MUN Percussion Ensemble The Scruncheons, hip-hop group Hear/Say, all-female vocal ensemble Acabella, and in various theatrical productions in both Corner Brook and St. John’s.

Whitney is recognized across Newfoundland and Labrador for her energetic and engaging percussion workshops and drum circles. She has led sessions at a variety of major events, including the Provincial Drama Festival, Lantern Festival, Mummers Festival, and NL Schools Professional Learning sessions, where her dynamic teaching style and passion for rhythm bring people of all ages together through music.

With over a decade of experience teaching music across Newfoundland and Labrador, Whitney has also taught private drum set and percussion lessons for many years. Now living in Corner Brook with her family, she’s proud to be putting down roots in her hometown and is excited to share her passion and experience with the community. She offers fun, beginner-friendly drum set and percussion lessons for students of all ages.
